Almost 150 years ago, the old Stagecoach stop just downhill from Colossal Cave burned down, but it never stopped the ranchers. Instead the ranchers took the descriptive Spanish name that means burned down outpost, then rebuilt it a few times over the years, and it is still in business today.
Visiting the ranch on the first day of spring, we found it teeming with activity. With a really wet winter, the creeks are running, water is across the road in a few places, and it is green everywhere. Amazingly, the cottonwoods are gorgeous, and the trees are getting buds.
Follow Old Spanish Trail to the end, and after paying a small fee at the Colossal Cave entrance, then you just keep on going until the road runs out at the old ranch house. Visit the museum, the gift shop and snack bars. The outfitters will take you riding, and much more can take place when you visit the beautiful ranch at the end of the road.
